Reading Aloud

Reading to children increases their knowledge to literature by exploring various writings including short stories and poems.  Reading aloud becomes a building block to promote growth, stimulation, and self-expression.  Reading to children opens a whole new world by jump starting their imagination and self confidence.  Reading aloud also increases vocabulary and the love for diverse stories, tales, and other forms of literature.  Children become more eager to read independently while expanding their interest for various topics.  Reading is a vital asset in pursuing educational goals and other life achievements.  Reading allows children to learn, emerge, and visit the world.

VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are the link to all possible achievements in the community.  Members of The Bookworms volunteer their time, untiring energy, creativity, and devotion to today's children.  Volunteers are individuals with various backgrounds and interest in getting involved and making a difference.

COMMUNITY

The Bookworms have been serving the community since October of 2002.  The group has grown with the support of various businesses, schools, libraries, and community leaders.  The Bookworms have also received support from the local media.  The group is currently in Camden and Atlantic Counties.  "Leaders Read Day" recognizes guest readers that allow children to have fun and share in the group's goal of helping others grow.  The group invites guest readers that represent community leadership and dedication.

"READY READER" is an upcoming special project.  "THE READY READER" is a bi-monthly newspaper created for children residing in family and homeless shelters in New Jersey.  The newspaper is an additional resource for shelters to encourage children to READ.

A SERVICE TO THE COMMUNUITY

The Bookworms is a reading group for children in homeless and family shelters.  The group consists of volunteers from the community.  Each volunteer provides one hour of reading to children, to increase their love and interest in reading and learning daily.
